BONGBONG MARCOS – The President announced that politicians are now barred from distributing financial aid as the government junks the “Padrino System”.

Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed the proposed 2026 national budget today. The proposed fund for the government this year amounted to P6.79 trillion. A ceremonial signing of the proposed fund was held at the Malacañang Palace today.

After signing the proposed fund for 2026, Pres. Bongbong Marcos gave a speech. He announced the junking of the so-called Padrino System as politicians are no longer allowed to distribute financial aid to the people. He stressed the strict implementation of the provision prohibiting political involvement in the distribution of cash assistance.

“So we shall also serve as vanguard of public funds ensuring the prudent use of every Peso. We will strictly implement the provision on the prohibition of political involvement in the distribution of cash and other forms of financial assistance,” Marcos Jr. said.

Furthermore, based on a post of News5 on social media, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also claimed that the government will make sure that the financial assistance reaches the beneficiaries without patronage. He also assured that the amount will be given in the exact amount.

“Politicians shall be barred from the distribution of any financial aid and we shall ensure that the support reaches the intended beneficiaries without patronage. Walang bawas, walang kulang,” the President said.

Out of the P6.79 trillion budget for 2026, the Office of the President is poised to get P27.3 billion. It includes the P4.5 billion confidential and intelligence funds. The office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos gets the lion’s share of the proposed P10.77 billion CIF for this year.

In the early days of January 2026, the country operated on a reenacted budget awaiting the President’s approval of the proposed fund for this year. Previously, Malacañang Palace claimed that Marcos Jr. had working Christmas holidays to review the proposed budget approved by the bicameral conference committee.

It was a wish of Pres. Bongbong Marcos that the legislative branch will come up with a “good budget” for 2026.
