Thomas, who has been living in Cebu with his son and Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Jr., was rushed to the hospital on December 2 due to a severe health condition that rapidly worsened. According to reports, doctors in the Philippines determined that his left leg required immediate amputation to save his life.
“I can confirm she has reached out to her father,” Meghan’s spokesperson told PEOPLE magazine, signaling a significant development in the long-strained relationship between the Duchess and her father. However, the spokesperson did not share further details about the nature of their communication or what the two discussed.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Thomas Jr. recalled the alarming state his father was in before the procedure. “His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated,” he said. The situation left the family with no choice but to proceed with the emergency surgery. “There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death,” he added.
Doctors also warned the family that the days following the operation would be crucial for Thomas’s recovery, describing the period as “critical.” Thomas Jr. further shared, “His left leg has been removed below the knee. They were worried about infection setting in.”
Currently, Thomas is confined to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is expected to undergo another medical procedure soon to address a blood clot.
Meghan and Thomas have been estranged since her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, a rift that has been widely covered by global media. Earlier this year, in May, Thomas relocated to Cebu with Thomas Jr., hoping for a quieter life away from the public spotlight.
Amid the Markle family’s ongoing challenges, Meghan’s gesture of reaching out hints at a possible path toward reconciliation during a difficult time for her father.
