Leila de Lima Believes Claire Castro Qualified to be Next DOJ Chief: “Matapang din ‘yun”

ML Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima Speaks on Next SOJ

LEILA DE LIMA – The Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative believes that Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro is qualified to be the next chief of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, the position of the Department of Justice Secretary remains vacant. It was left vacant after former DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to be the country’s Ombudsman. He was one of the seven (7) candidates for Ombudsman in the shortlist submitted by the Judiciary and Bar Council (JBC) to the Chief Executive.

During the application process, Remulla confirmed that he told Marcos Jr. about his plan and he is confident that the DOJ will be in good hands even if he would be moved as the country chief graft-buster. Currently, the acting secretary of justice (SOJ) is Fredderick A. Vida who succeeded Remulla in the position.

Amid the vacancy in the position of the DOJ chief, Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima confirmed that she already saw the list containing the names of individuals who are considered to possibly be the next SOJ. De Lima is not only a former senator but also a former DOJ secretary.

Based on a post on social media, ML partylist Rep. Leila de Lima claimed that most of the people in the supposed list are qualified to be the next secretary of justice in the Philippines. She clarified that it is not an official list. She also mentioned Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro.

“Well mahirap pong sabihin, eh kasi akita ko naman sa listahan medyo karamihan naman sa kanila deserve. Hindi naman po official list pa ‘yun, pangalan lang,” de Lima said.

Based on the post, ML partylist Rep. Leila de Lima believes that Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro is allegedly also qualified to be the DOJ chief. According to her, Castro is also brave.

“Kasi may ilan-ilan na mga current Usec… Naririnig ko rin si Claire Castro, Atty. Claire Castro, pwede rin siya. Matapang din ‘yun. Diba? And several others pero hindi ata ‘yan ang official list, pinag-uusapan pa lang sila,” the former DOJ Chief said.

Atty. Claire Castro has undeniably become one of the most popular press officer that Malacañang had. She earned both praises and criticisms over her statements and defenses to Pres. Bongbong Marcos and the government. Recently, she and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte had an exchange of statements about not being the best of friends.
