Former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral Found Dead after Alleged Fall from Benguet Cliff
DPWH – The Department of Public Works and Highways issued a statement on the death of former Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral.
The death of former Public Works Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral who was found dead due to an alleged fall from a cliff in Benguet shocked countless Filipinos. Cabral gained national attention after her name was implicated in the supposed multi-billion flood control scam in the Philippines.

Cabral resigned from her position last September. Her resignation was accepted by Public Works chief Vince Dizon two (2) days after she tendered her resignation letter. However, he body was recently found unresponsive and unconscious 20 to 30 meters along the banks of the Bued River at Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet.

The driver of former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral, Cardo Hernandez, claimed that he allegedly left Cabral at the Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet at around 2:30 p.m. of Thursday. According to him, they drove from Manila to Baguio as she wants to be relieved from stress.
Cabral’s driver claimed that the former DPWH Undersecretary looked fine but she was mostly silent during their trip. According to him, they were already at the Kennon Road in the morning of Thursday but they were allegedly asked by the police authorities to leave the area citing that it is accident-prone.

Former DPWH Usec. Maria Catalina Cabral resigned from her position amid the flood control mess in the Philippines. The government agency immediately issued a statement following the reports of her death from an alleged fall from a cliff in Benguet.
In its statement, the public works department expressed its condolences to the family of the former DPWH Usec. Cabral has served the government agency for over 40 years. The department stressed that the loss of the former public works official “will be mourned throughout the organization”.
