ROMNICK SARMENTA – The actor defended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the issue of flood control projects amid flooding in the Philippines.

The Philippines is currently under a national state of calamity as declared by Marcos Jr. following the wrath of Typhoon Tino. Undeniably, the devastating situation in the provinces of Cebu and Negros gathered speculations that dragged the flood control projects into the issue. Cebu Governor Pam Baricuatro is disappointed over the flooding in her province despite the P26 billion budget for the flood control projects.

According to the Governor of Cebu, most of the flood control projects in the province since 2019 were either ghost or substandard projects. She claimed that they already inspected the flood mitigation and submitted a report to the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).

Amid the devastating situation in Cebu and Negros and the talks about the flood control projects, actor and civic advocate Romnick Sarmenta defended Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. According to him, Marcos Jr. is not the only one at fault over the flood control issue in the country. He stressed that the issue supposedly includes all greedy, corrupt officials of the government.

“Hindi lang si PBBM ang mali dito. It begins with greed. That would include ALL corrupt officials in every level,” Romnick said.

Furthermore, Romnick Sarmenta also claimed that the flood control infrastructures are allegedly not enough if the activities that destroy the nature continue. He stressed that the problem supposedly begins with “greed” and not the flood control projects.

“Deforestation. Mining. ‘Development for residential areas’ these are the reasons you need flood control. So the problem doesn’t begin and stop at DPWH projects. It begins with greed,” the actor said.

Romnick Sarmenta lamented the alleged cycle of situation in the Philippines whenever a typhoon would hit the country. According to him, the calamity is not the problem but the people who allegedly keep on corrupting the people’s money.

“Nakakagalit na tuwing may bagyo, pare-parehong eksena baha, pagkasira ng kabuhayan, at kawalan ng pananagutan. Hindi problema ang ulan. Ang problema, yung mga taong paulit-ulit niloloko ang sistema. Hangga’t may ganid, may mababaha,” he expressed.

Currently, typhoon “Uwan” which was previously a super typhoon is still within the PAR but it has weakened. Based on a report on GMA News, the typhoon continues to move farther over the West Philippine Sea. It is expected to exit the PAR by late Monday or early Tuesday.

Previously, following the deep flooding in Cebu that left the province in an unfortunate situation, Malacañang claimed that Marcos Jr. is “also” angry over the massive flooding in Cebu.
