Richard Gomez Escapes Political Chaos—Chooses Film Comeback Over Congress Drama
RICHARD GOMEZ – As political issues intensify in government, actor-politician Richard Gomez has chosen an unexpected escape: a comeback film project.
Actor-politician Richard Gomez has chosen to distance himself from the ongoing political turbulence within the government, opting instead to return to the world of filmmaking. In his interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Gomez candidly shared why he accepted a film offer at a time when Congress is facing intense scrutiny and internal conflicts.
“Alam mo Boy nagkataon na ang gulu-gulo ng mundo ng pulitika ngayon and I am in Congress, kagulo sa Congress ngayon. All of this corruption issues, flood control issues,” Goma said, explaining the current issues that have weighed on him as a public servant.

Richard Gomez went on to reveal that the timing of a good script played a significant role in his decision to revisit showbiz. “Tamang-tama dumating ‘yung magandang script and sabi ko I don’t want to be there where the mess is. So pinili ko na magtrabaho. Sabi ko, let me stay away from all this mess,” he added.
According to Gomez, working on a film gave him the chance to focus on something positive amid the chaos unfolding in Congress. “I love my work as a congressman because I’m able to help my district. I’m able to help the people. But again masuwerte ako because in the midst of all this turmoil nabigyan ako ng chance na gumawa ng isang Salvageland at ginawa ko so ito na ‘yun. Habang nagkakagulo sila, meron tayong nagawang maganda,” he shared.
Gomez currently serves as the 4th District Representative of Leyte. Before this, he completed his term as mayor of Ormoc City, where he was credited with various local developments. Despite his responsibilities in public office, the congressman expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work again in the film industry.
Like Gomez, their film’s director, Lino Cayetano, is also making a return to the big screen. In the upcoming movie Salvageland, Gomez stars alongside Elijah Canlas, portraying a father-and-son police duo who go up against a crime syndicate operating outside Metro Manila.
The cast also includes seasoned and emerging talents such as Mon Confiado, Cindy Miranda, McCoy de Leon, and Angela Morena, promising an action-packed film that marks Gomez’s notable comeback to cinema.
