NDRRMC Suggests for Marcos Jr. To Declare State of National Calamity

MARCOS JR. – The President declared a State of National Calamity due to “Tino” and looming super typhoon “Uwan”.

Typhoon Tino recently hit Visayas and Mindanao leaving several areas in deep flooding. Typhoon Tino’s death toll has reached more than 100 already in Cebu and Negros provinces amid the ongoing search and rescue operations. Countless families were left homeless by the storm that brought heavy rains and strong winds.

The floodwater level in Cebu reached the roofs of several single-storey houses in the province. Several netizens had to climb their rooftops to avoid the floodwater. Unfortunately, most of the fatalities recorded were due to drowning in floodwater. The calamity also brought massive destruction to properties most especially cars.

Cebu has yet to fully recover from the impacts of the September 30 earthquake when Typhoon Tino brought huge devastation in some parts of the province. Aside from Cebu, the typhoon also brought massive flooding to several cities in Negros which also recorded fatalities.

The strong winds caused by Tino in Negros also ripped off roods as well as huge trees with some of them breaking homes. Following the huge devastation caused by Typhoon Tino in some parts of the country, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was suggested to declare a national State of Calamity.

The proposal of the NDRRMC (National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) for Marcos Jr. to declare a national state of calamity is due to Typhoon Tino as well as the looming super typhoon named “Uwan”. It is set to be the 21st cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News on social media, Marcos Jr. approved the proposal of the NDRRMC to declare a national state of calamity due to typhoon Tino and the looming super typhoon “Uwan”. The upcoming typhoon is currently a tropical depression that continues to move west northwestward according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA.

“Uwan” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility or PAR by late Friday or early Saturday. It is projected to make a landfall over Northern and Central Luzon. Aside from declaring a national state of calamity, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also has an order for the government agencies with regards to the Christmas celebrations following a series of calamities in the country.
