Kim Chiu Speaks Out on Cebu Floods: “Sino na naman sisihin natin?”

Kim Chiu Reacts to Massive Flooding in Cebu

KIM CHIU – TV host and actress Kim Chiu couldn’t hold back her emotions as she spoke about the heartbreaking situation in Cebu, where massive flooding left thousands of residents struggling to recover.

Kim Chiu expressed deep concern and heartbreak over the devastation caused by the recent severe flooding in Cebu City, which left many residents struggling after the onslaught of a powerful storm. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Kim shared that while her own area in the province was not directly affected, she could not help but feel worried for her fellow Cebuanos who suffered from the disaster.

“Sana magawa na lahat ng dapat gumawa ng paraan. Para hindi na maulit,”
said Kim during the interview.

The actress added that it was the first time such a massive flood had happened in Cebu, prompting her to question accountability. “Sa amin, hindi naman binaha. Pero it is the first time nangyari sa amin sa Cebu nagka ganoon kalalang baha. And sino na naman sisihin natin?” she said.

Several towns and cities across Cebu were submerged in floodwaters, making it difficult for residents to evacuate. The calamity caused widespread damage to homes, livelihoods, and infrastructure, leaving thousands displaced.

Because of this, Kim once again appealed for greater attention and immediate action to address recurring problems linked to worsening natural disasters.

The actress also recalled that just last month, Cebu was struck by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake, which she personally experienced while filming her upcoming project “The Alibi” with Paulo Avelino.

According to Kim, everyone in the cast and crew remained safe, but the continuous aftershocks left them anxious and on edge. “Medyo nakaka-praning lang. Naka-stay kami lahat sa hotel. Non-stop aftershocks, so lahat ng kasama namin — sina Ms. Zsa Zsa, sina Sir John… may konting lindol, may dala sila bag at baba sila agad,” she recounted.

As of November 4, at least 53 towns and cities in Cebu have been declared under a state of calamity following the destructive impact of Typhoon Tino, intensifying the call for better disaster preparedness and government response in the province.
