CARLO YULO – Philippine gymnastics star Carlos Yulo beamed with emotion after watching his brother Eldrew secure two bronze medals on the global stage, calling the performance nothing short of inspiring.
Carlos Yulo could not hide his joy and admiration after witnessing his younger brother, Karl Eldrew Yulo, claim two bronze medals at the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships. The event, held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City, marked another proud moment for the Yulo family as Eldrew showcased his talent on the international stage.
In a video released by ABS-CBN News, Carlos spoke about the remarkable effort that went into Eldrew’s routines. He emphasised that behind every polished performance was months of preparation, mental conditioning, and sheer determination. As a two-time Olympic gold medalist, Carlos understands the demands of elite gymnastics, and this gave his words even more weight when he highlighted the depth of Eldrew’s commitment.
Carlos Yulo openly shared just how moved he was by his brother’s achievement. Reflecting on Eldrew’s routines, he said, “Sobrang nakaka-proud po. Grabe, ang ganda ng laban.” His reaction captured both the pride of an older brother and the perspective of a world-class athlete who recognises the hard work required to excel.
He went on to explain that Eldrew’s podium finish was especially meaningful because he personally witnessed his brother’s sacrifices. In the interview, he pointed out how Eldrew constantly pushed himself, visualising and preparing for this moment throughout his training journey. Carlos expressed this admiration by stating, “Nakakatuwa para sa kanya. Alam ko pinaghirapan niya lahat ‘yon, ‘yung mga practice niya.”
Carlos also spoke about the difficulty Eldrew faced competing while nursing an ankle injury. He said the situation revealed just how dedicated Eldrew was to gymnastics, noting that performing under such conditions demonstrated a deep love for the sport. He underscored this by adding, “Makikita mo rin po, masasabi mo rin po na mahal na mahal niya ‘yung sport.”
He acknowledged how emotionally draining injuries can be, touching on the need for immense inner strength to keep going. Carlos explained, “Kung huhugutin mo sa pinakailalim yung motivation mo, siyempre nakaka-down po ‘yon.”
Despite the challenge, Carlos praised Eldrew for maintaining a strong mindset and refusing to let adversity break him. He highlighted this resilience, saying, “Sobrang nakakatuwa na nakakabilib din dahil hindi siya nagpatalo sa sarili niya.”
