The Ombudsman’s office issued a statement to clarify the health of Ombudsman Boying Remulla following his revelation about his leukemia diagnosis.

Recently, Ombudsman Boying Remulla revealed that he was diagnosed of leukemia, a cancer of the blood, after he had an open-heart surgery in 2023. According to him, it was in June of that year when he went through a quintuple bypass surgery.

According to Remulla, when he was already recovering from his heart surgery when he was diagnosed with leukemia. The then Secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) had two cycles of chemotherapy and body irradiation and he also had a bone marrow transplant from his child who is his “full match”.

“Ang bone marrow transplant, ‘pag wala ka nang white blood cells, lalagyan ka ng stem cell ng donor para magkaroon ka ng bagong bone marrow para palitan ‘yung bone marrow. ‘Yung ang pinaka-factory ng dugo, kaya ang dugo ko ngayon ay hindi na ‘yung dati kong dugo. Ito ay dugo na galing sa aking anak,” Remulla said.

Ombudsman Boying Remulla said his prognosis looks good. He even expressed his belief that he still has work to do so his recovery is going well. However, the revelation of the country’s chief graft-buster was seemingly taken out of context by many people that the Ombudsman’s office issued a statement for “immediate release” to clarify it.

The Ombudsman’s office clarified that Ombudsman Boying Remulla is in a good health and continues to fulfill his role with dedication. Based on a post of ABS-CBN News on social media, his office stressed that Remulla is free from cancer for a year and a half now. Furthermore, it stressed in the statement that the Ombudsman is exercising before going to work.

“Ang kanyang kamakailang pahayag tungkol sa kanyang kalusugan ay nasa past tense, dahil tumutukoy ito sa kanyang karanasan bago siya maupo bilang Ombudsman,” the statement of the Ombudsman’s office reads.

Furthermore, the Ombudsman’s office assured the public that Ombudsman Boying Remulla is determined to hold the responsible ones in the flood control issue accountable. Based on the post, his office claimed that he is in an even better condition to do it.
