Malacañang on Paolo Duterte’s “Threat” to Dad Rodrigo’s Arresters: “Tayo po ay nasa sinasabing civilized society”

Statement of Malacañang on Remarks of Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte over Dad Rodrigo’s Arrest

Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro spoke on Davao 1st District Congressman Paolo Duterte’s “threat” to the arresters of his father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The Duterte camp was visibly saddened and disappointed over the decision of the International Criminal Court on the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. The former Chief Executive is detained under the ICC custody in The Hague, Netherlands for 7 months now.

The ICC rejected the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It was a unanimous decision from the three (3) ICC judges to turn down the interim release bid. In a nine-page ruling of the foreign court, it is stated that Duterte’s continued detention is necessary to ensure his attendance to the legal proceedings.

The ICC also backed its decision with the criticisms of the Duterte family on the arrest and the transfer of his custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The ruling came after Vice Pres. Sara Duterte confirmed that a “third country” is allegedly willing to host the interim release of her father.

Davao City 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte issued a warning after the ICC junked the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. According to him, he will make sure that the arresters of his father who forcibly brought the former President to The Hague will pay “for this crime”. He also called the ICC ruling as not law but allegedly a “political theater”.

According to the younger Duterte, the decision of the ICC is allegedly a “gross and disgraceful miscarriage of justice”. He stressed that his father is an 80-year-old man and is supposedly not a flight risk.

Based on the report, the Malacañang press officer further stressed that the Philippine government only acted on the rule of law. According to her, the Marcos Jr. administration has nothing to do with the case that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is facing before the ICC.

“Wala po tayo sa isang barbaric world so dapat po tayong tumugon kung ano po ang rule of law at hindi po tayo dapat natatakot or lagi na lamang nabubuhay sa pananakot,” she said.

Previously, the Duterte camp said they are ready to accept any condition for the interim release of the former President from the ICC detention facility. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that her 80-year-old father allegedly needs a 24-hour caregiver to take care of him.
