Malacañang on Calls for Constitutional Change: ‘Ang kailangan ay change of heart’

Statement of Malacañang on Calls for ChaCha amid Massive Corruption Issue

MALACAÑANG – The Palace believes that what the Philippines allegedly needs is a “change of heart” and not a Constitutional change.

The flood control mess in the Philippines angered countless Filipinos. It even sparked the “Trillion Peso March” that got thousands of Filipinos on the streets to protest against the supposed multi-billion corruption in the Philippines. Many Filipinos gathered in different areas across the nation last September 21 for the protest actions against corruption.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos even claimed that he might be on the streets, too, if he was not president. Malacañang tagged that the protest actions are normal and the Chief Executive was not worried about it. Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro stressed that the rallies are an expression of being against corruption.

While Senator Alan Peter Cayetano had a thought of the government officials resigning for a “snap election”, there are also calls to change part of the Constitution. Recently, Malacañang spoke on the calls for a change in the Constitution.

“Ang Pangulo ay, sa ngayon, hindi sumasang-ayon sa isang Constitutional change. Maraming paraan para maresolba ang ganitong sitwasyon. Maraming batas na maaaring gamitin kung susunod lamang ang mga public officials natin,” Castro said.

The Malacañang press officer further claimed that the change in parts of the Constitution is allegedly not what is needed but a change of heart. She stressed that the Filipinos should be patriotic.

“Hindi kailangan ng constitutional change. Ang kailangan ay change of attitude at change of heart… Maging maka-Pilipino at maging makabayan,” the Malacañang official said.
