Sen. Erwin Tulfo Files Senate Bill for One-Month Income Tax Holiday
ERWIN TULFO – The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s acting chairman proposed a one-month Tax Holiday amid the flood control issue in the Philippines.
The flood control mess in the Philippines left countless Filipinos in huge disappointment. The supposed corruption through the government flood control deals amounts not only in millions but billions. Several government officials are linked to the issue. President Bongbong Marcos ordered the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI to investigate the multi-billion scam.

Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, Senator Erwin Tulfo who is now the acting chairman of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee proposed a one-month income tax holiday. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he filed the Senate Bill No. 1446 known as the “One-Month Tax Holiday of 2025”.

The proposal of Tulfo came amid the multi-billion flood control scam and it aims to provide direct benefits to the Filipinos who are working as a form of “financial relief”. He stressed that the exposure of the multi-billion flood control scam allegedly caused the erosion of public trust on the government.
“The exposure of alleged anomalies on flood control projects, involving billions of pesos in public funds have gravely eroded public trust in government fiscal stewardship. The Filipino people have raised a clear and resounding clamor— ‘Ibalik ang pera ng bayan. Ibaba ang tax (Return the money, lower the tax),’” the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s acting Chairman said.

Last September 21, the “Trillion Peso March” was held and thousands of Filipinos were on the streets doing protest actions against corruption. There was a loud call for the government told hold the officials who are involved in the flood control scam accountable.
Sen. Erwin Tulfo stressed that the “welfare of the people is the supreme law”. According to him, it is just and necessary for the government to respond to the situation by providing relief to the taxpayers who sustain the government funds.

Under the Senate Bill No. 1446 proposed by Sen. Erwin Tulfo, a one-time, one-month income tax holiday will be applied among the individual taxpayers. With regards to mixed income earners, the portion classified as salary will be exempted from tax deductions once the proposed measure is passed.
Previously, Sen. Erwin Tulfo earned countless criticisms online over his “bend the law” remarks during a Senate flood probe.
