Sen. Chiz Escudero Joins List of Senators Who Disclosed their SALNs
CHIZ ESCUDERO – The Senator was bashed and questioned over the P18.8 million net worth that he declared in December 2024.
Several senators recently released a copy of their Statements of Assets. Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) following the request of the Office of the Ombudsman. Amid the flood control mess, Ombudsman Boying Remulla restored the public access to the SALN of the government officials. However, his office is only the repository of the SALN of the president, the vice president, and the officials of the local government and the Constitutional commissions.

In a memorandum that reversed the circular implemented during the term of former Ombudsman Samuel Martires, Remulla cited the principle embedded in the Philippine Constitution that “Public office is a public trust”. He asked the senators to voluntarily disclose their SALNs to the public.

Based on his SALN, minority Senator Robin Padilla declared a net worth of P244 million with no liabilities as of December 2024. He was one of the senators who were the first ones to show willingness to publicize their wealth.
Sen. Raffy Tulfo also released his joint SALN with his wife, ACT-CIS partylist Representative Jocelyn Tulfo, which showed that the couple is a billionaire. Like Padilla, Tulfo also had no liabilities based on his declaration.
Recently, the Senate Secretary also released the SALN of Sen. Chiz Escudero. The document released showed that Escudero is the poorest among the 16 senators who have issued a copy of their SALNs to the public for having a net worth of P18.8 million as of December 2024.

Based on a post of ABS-CBN News on social media, Sen. Chiz Escudero listed five (5) real properties that were acquired through “succession” as part of his assets. Four of them are residential properties while the other one is agricultural.
He also declared having cash amounting to P11.7 million. He named Escudero, Marasigan, Vallente & E.H. Villareal Law Offices as his business interest. The Senator also declared a 1995 Range Rover Classic and a 1969 BMW 1602 as part of his assets.
Some netizens were undeniably surprised by the net worth declared through the SALN of Sen. Chiz Escudero while others appreciated his disclosure. Here are some of the comments on the post:
Kristoffer de Jesus: “People will ask about the US$1M ring.“
Sheena Cuesa: “Transparency at work! Good to see more senators leading by example and showing accountability to the public”
Angelo Guillermo: “importante eh compliant sya both legally and ethically”

Amid the senators disclosing their assets and liabilities, Malacañang was also recently asked over the SALN of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
