Sen. Bato dela Rosa Calls for House Arrest for Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte
BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator appealed to his fellow senators to set aside politics and unite in supporting a house arrest for former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
The senators recently voted on a resolution that urges the Senate to call for the house arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. FPRRD remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands for more than six (6) months now.

The lawyer of former Pres. Duterte, Nicholas Kaufman, claimed that the former President is allegedly suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’ and is unfit to stand trial. Following his claim, the ICC ruled to postpone the confirmation of charges hearing in the case against the former President.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also recently claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was allegedly found unconscious in the floor of his ICC detention room. According to her, the former President needs a 24-hour caregiver and she prefers a house arrest for her father in Davao City.

The ICC has yet to decide on the application of Duterte’s camp for his interim release. Recently, the senators voted on a resolution urging the Senate to call for the former President’s release. One of the 15 senators who voted in favor of the resolution was Sen. Bato dela Rosa.

In his speech before his fellow senators, Sen. Bato dela Rosa recalled his experience with his own father wherein he wanted to go home but it did not happen when he was alive as the younger Dela Rosa was out for a mission and it might be risky for his father. According to the former Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, he can feel it in his heart that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has the same plea to him.
“Ngayon, Mr. President, alam ko kahit na wala akong direktang komunikasyon kay Pangulong Duterte, alam ko, deep inside my heart, bilang aking pangalawang ama si Pangulong Duterte, alam ko deep inside my heart na the same message ang gusto niyang iparating sa akin, ‘Bato, pauwwin mo na ako sa Davao para makakain ako ng munggo, makakain ako ng inun-unan na isda,” he said based on a post of News5 on social media.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa appealed to his fellow senators to set aside politics and unite. He stressed the Filipinos’ culture of loving and caring for the elderly and the weak.
“Kaya aking pakiusap ngayon sa ating mga kasamahan sa bulwagang ito na sana hindi pa huli ang lahat. Hindi pa huli ang lahat na tayo’y magkakaisa. Kung mabigat man sa kalooban ninyo ako’y nakikiusap na sana isantabi muna natin ang pulitika at ating paghariin sa ating mga puso ang ating pagiging Pilipino na kung saan nakaukit sa ating kultura at sa ating tradisyon ang pagmamahal, pag respeto, pag-aruga sa mga matatanda,” the Senator said.
Based on the post, Sen. Bato dela Rosa stressed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is old, sick, and weak. he appealed to his fellow senators to call for the former President’s house arrest so FPRRD will know that there is one chamber of the government, specifically the Senate, who thinks of his return before he dies.
Amid the claims of the Duterte camp that the former President is weak now and suffers from a ‘cognitive impairment, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes tagged the claim of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte that her father was allegedly found unconscious in his ICC room as allegedly a “drama”.
