Heavy Rains, Strong Winds Brought by Typhoon Opong Cause Damage to Properties in Several Provinces in PH

Typhoon Opong Update

Opong is expected to hit the West Philippine Sea either late Friday or early Saturday. According to the Philippine Atmosheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA, moving in a westward direction, the eye of the typhoon is expected to pass Masbate, Sibuyan Sea, southern CALABARZON, and northern MIMAROPA

The state weather bureau said that Typhoon Opong will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Saturday afternoon. Amid the wrath of the severe tropical storm, several provinces braved the heavy rains and strong winds which brought destruction to properties.

In Samar, based on a post of News5 on social media, the wrath of Opong caused damages to the roofing of a covered court as well as a fuel station in Brgy. San Policarpo Purok 2 in Calbayog. Citing the statement of the uploader of the photos, heavy rains coupled with strong winds were felt starting 2:00 a.m. in the province.

Typhoon Opong also brought massve destruction in several properties in the province of Masbate today. The wrath of the severe tropical storm was felt in the province around 5:00 a.m. and several properties in Butuan were left damaged. Currently, the province including Tical and Burias Island are under storm signal no. 3.

Based on a post, aside from the destruction to properties in the provinces of Masbate and Samar, several tropical storm Opong also caused landslide in Leyte. A major highway that connects the province to Biliran Island is currently blocked due to the landslide.

Currently, wind signal no. 3 is up in Sorsogon, Batangas, Masbate, Albay, southern Quezon, western & southern Camarines Sur, Romblon, southern Laguna, Marinduque, Biliran, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Northern Samar, Central Samar, Eastern Samar, and northern Leyte.
