ML Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima Reacts To ICC Charges Filed against Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte
LEILA DE LIMA – The Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Representative spoke after the International Criminal Court (ICC) bared the charges filed against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The confirmation of charges hearing of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was postponed by the ICC after his lawyer claimed that he is “not fit to stand trial”. According to Nicholas Kaufman, the former President is suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’.

Kaufman also claimed that Duterte’s cognitive condition will allegedly either remain static or deteriorate further even with a medical intervention. He also claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is allegedly unable to remember places, events, and even members of his family. He hopes that the Marcos Jr. administration will allow the former President’s return to the Philippines.

Following the postponement of the confirmation of charges hearing, Duterte’s camp also asked the ICC to adjourn all the legal proceedings indefinitely. The former President’s camp has applied for his interim release. However, the ICC prosecutor insisted that Duterte’s continued detention is necessary.
Recently, the International Criminal Court bared the charges filed against former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The ICC prosecutor has filed three (3) counts of murder against the former Philippine Chief Executive. The disclosure earned various reactions from the Filipinos including former Sen. Leila de Lima, a staunch critic of the Duterte administration.

Based on a post of News5 on social media, former Senator and now Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima claimed that the Philippine human rights community has warned and advised former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. However, according to her, the former President refused to heed the warnings.
“Duterte did not lack warnings and advice from the Philippine human rights community about his future accountability. He ignored all these warnings at his own peril,” the former Senator said.

Based on the post, ML Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima is also confident that the other individuals who played roles in the Duterte drug war will also be arrested and brought to the ICC detention center in The Hague, Netherlands. The former President is detained under the custody of the ICC for six (6) months now.
“His co-conspirators will follow him to the Hague soon enough,” De Lima said.
It was recently confirmed that a country has allegedly agree to host the interim release of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, her contacts abroad helped her for the interim release of the former President citing that she can’t trust anyone in the Philippines.
