Erwin Tulfo To Boying Remulla: “Mas mataas po ang taong bayan sa batas”

Sen. Erwin Tulfo Claims that ‘Sometimes You Have To Bend the Law To Please the People’

ERWIN TULFO – The Senator confronted Department of Justice Secretary Boying Remulla during a Senate investigation on the flood control issue.

The Senate previously confirmed that it will continue with its investigation on the flood control issue in the Philippines despite the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure or ICI. Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the formation of the independent probe team armed with the power to move for the seizure of assets linked to irregularities as well as the power to issue a subpoena.

In the case of the House of Representatives’ flood control investigation, newly-elected House Speaker Bojie Dy said the flood control probe is best done by the independent commission ordered by Marcos Jr. Both the Senate and the House have change in their leaderships amid some senators and congressmen linked to the issue.

In the Senate, the flood control investigation is led by the Blue Ribbon Committee chaired by Senator Ping Lacson. The committee’s vice chairman is Sen. Erwin Tulfo. During the most recent flood control probe, Tulfo confronted Department of Justice Sec. Boying Remulla.

Based on a livestream posted by UNTV, Sen. Erwin Tulfo insisted to Justice Sec. Boying Remulla that the contractors and the government officials involved in the flood control scam should be forced to return the money of the people. He stressed that the law is allegedly ‘bendable’.

“Kaya nga po dito sa mga contractor, mga opisyal, isoli ninyo ang pera ng taong bayan. Hindi po batas ang pinag-uusapan, wala tayong pakialam sa batas na ‘yan. Sometimes you have to bend the law to be able to please the people. Mas mataas po ang taong bayan sa batas. Am I right, Sec. Remulla?” Tulfo said.

Based on the livestream, DOJ Sec. Boying Remulla answered the question of Sen. Erwin Tulfo in the affirmative. At the hearing, Sen. Rodante Marcoleta proposed for the attendance of former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson in the next Senate flood probe.

Chavit Singson previously claimed that Marcos Jr. is allegedly part of the country’s flood control problem. He also claimed that the investigation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure should start in Ilocos Norte because it is where the President came from.

According to Singson, some construction companies linked to controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya allegedly have several projects in the province.
