DPWH Official Claims Paolo Duterte Allegedly Given P51-Billion Infra Funds w/in 3 Years under Father’s Term

Davao Cong. Paolo Duterte’s Infra Funds Asked about to DPWH Official during House Hearing

DPWH OFFICIAL – Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral claimed that Davao City 1st District Congressman Paolo Duterte was given around P51 billion infrastructure funds within the last three (3) years of his father’s term.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are investigating the flood control projects issue in the Philippines now. The probe came after the discoveries of several ‘ghost’ and substandard flood control projects in several areas in the country.

In Bulacan, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was left “angry” by a P55-million ‘ghost’ Riverwall that was already paid in full by the government as per the receipts. Furthermore, the project was also marked completed but the Chief Executive arrived at nothing when he visited the area.

In the same province, Marcos Jr. also fond an incomplete and substandard flood control project that he even called out the St. Timothy Construction to explain the matter. The contractor is one of the 15 contractors flagged by the President during a press conference.

Recently, the House of Representatives held a hearing on the issue of flood control projects in the Philippines. During the hearing, based on a report on GMA News, at the House inquiry, DPWH USec. Maria Catalina Cabral was asked about her previous interview wherein she spoke about the infra funds granted to Davao City 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte.

House Infrastructure Committee chairperson and Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Terry Ridon cited the televised interview of the DPWH Official in January 2024. Then, she acknowledged that Paolo Duterte who was also sitting as the congressman of Davao City’s First District was allegedly given around P51 billion funds between 2020 to 2022.

Based on the report, the Ako Bicol party-list Representative pressed the DPWH official to recall her claim that Davao City 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte allegedly got around P51 billion budget for the infrastructure projects in his district during the last three (3) years of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s term.

“I guess I fairly remember, Your Honor. I think there was an interview that time,” the DPWH Official.

Ridon pressed the DPWH Official further and Cabral answered in the affirmative. Previously, Davao City 1st District Cong. Paolo Duterte reacted to the remarks of Manila 6th District Cong. Benny Abante over the flood control projects in his district.
