Charo Santos Gets Real About Love, Loss, & Caring for Her Husband Until the End
CHARO SANTOS – Love, loss, and resilience — these are the words that best describe how ABS-CBN executive and actress Charo Santos opened up about her late husband in a heartfelt interview.
ABS-CBN executive and veteran actress Charo Santos has opened up about the profound meaning of love she discovered while caring for her late husband, Cesar Concio Jr. In a recent vlog with broadcaster KC Constantino, Charo reflected on her journey of love, loss, and resilience, revealing how her definition of love transformed in the final years she shared with her husband.
Charo’s husband passed away in 2023 at the age of 91, just weeks before turning 92. Despite the challenges of caring for a loved one with a lingering illness, Charo shared that she never saw it as a burden. “Walang mabigat kasi mahal ko,” she expressed, emphasizing the depth of her devotion.

The award-winning actress also spoke about her upcoming film Only We Know with Dingdong Dantes, which was originally pitched to her years ago. For her, the timing of the project feels right, as both she and Dantes are now in different stages of their lives. “Ibang tao na ako nung 2023,” she said, noting how her experiences have shaped her perspective and artistry.
Charo explained how her view of love evolved over time. “Even your definition of love, nagiiba. When you’re young, when you get married and settle down, and when you go through challenges of married life. When you’re taking care of someone who has lingering illness–– iba. Ako, I learned that I am capable of deep love. Malalim pala ako mag mahal,” she admitted.
She also recounted conversations she had with her husband about mortality, which gave her comfort. He reminded her that life is temporary and assured her that they would meet again someday. “Until the very end, in health and in sickness, we were partners,” Charo recalled with fondness.

For Charo, losing her husband was one of the “two tragic losses” of her life, the other being the ABS-CBN shutdown. Still, she remains grateful for the unwavering support he gave her, even during his illness.
Nearly two years after his passing, Charo has returned to acting while cherishing the memories of their partnership, carrying with her the lessons of enduring love.
