Acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Sues Gov’t Officials Involved in Dad Rodrigo’s Arrest Last March 11
BASTE DUTERTE – The acting Mayor of Davao City filed charges versus government officials over the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte is under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands since March. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity over the war on drugs of his administration.

It was last March 11 when Duterte was arrested by the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). On the same day that he was arrested, the former President was flown to Dubai en route to The Hague for the transfer of his custody to the ICC.

The Duterte family members believe that what was done to their patriarch was allegedly “kidnapping”. While the former President remains under the ICC custody, Duterte’s lawyer Nicholas Kaufman recently asked the ICC to adjourn all legal proceedings indefinitely. The British-Israeli lawyer claimed that his client suffers from ‘cognitive impairment’.
Kaufman also claimed that the condition of Duterte will allegedly either remain ‘static’ or will deteriorate further even with a medical intervention. He also expressed his hope that the Marcos Jr. administration will allow the former President’s return to the country for his interim release.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos and several top officials in the government earned massive criticisms over the arrest and the transfer of the custody for former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC. The Palace previously defended the President saying that the government only acted on its commitment with the Interpol.
Amid the former Chief Executive’s detention, the Duterte siblings, Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, acting Davao mayor Baste Duterte, and Kitty Duterte took turns in visiting their father inside the ICC detention facility. It was only a few weeks ago that four (4) of them were allowed to visit the former President altogether.

Recently, acting Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte filed charges against several government officials who were involved in the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, the youngest son of the former President filed his complaint before the Office of the Ombudsman for Mindanao. He filed multiple charges against the following:
- Interior and Local Government Secretary Juan Victor Remulla
- Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro
- National Security Adviser Eduardo Año
- Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla,
- Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty
- former PNP chiefs General Nicolas Torre III and Rommel Marbil,
- Markus Lacanilao
- Anthony Alcantara,
- ichard Anthony Fadullon
- Brigadier General Jean Fajardo
Acting Davao Mayor Baste Duterte was accompanied by lawyer Israelito Torreon in filing the complaint against the government officials and personalities involved in the arrest of his father. Based on the report, he sues them for ‘kidnapping, arbitrary detention, qualified direct assault, expulsion, usurpation of judicial functions, all under the Revised Penal Code, and for alleged violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act (R.A. 3019)’.
Amid the claim of the former President’s lawyer, an ICC lawyer cited the opposing claims between the Duterte family members and the former President’s lawyer who said that he is suffering from a ‘cognitive impairment’. The ICC-accredited lawyer cited the remarks of the children of the former Chief Executive.
