Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Senate Archiving the Impeachment Case against her
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that she really wants the evidence of the prosecution and the defense team presented to the public.
The impeachment saga of Vice Pres. Duterte has went through several significant phases already and gathered different opinions. It was last February when the House of Representatives impeached the Vice President. Following it, petitions seeking for the dismissal of the impeachment case were filed before the Supreme Court.

Before the 20th Congress officially opened, the Supreme Court declared the articles of impeachment against Duterte as “unconstitutional”. The court stated that the complaint did not follow the one-year rule with regards to impeachments. On the part of the complainants, they argued that the other impeachment complaints filed against Duterte in 2024 were not transmitted.

A week after the 20th Congress opened, the Senate discussed the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as the senators have agreed. Senate Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Rodante Marcoleta immediately moved to dismiss the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Duterte.
However, Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto was also quick to table Marcoleta’s motion but failed with only five (5) votes. Sotto pointed out the Motion for Reconsideration filed before the Supreme Court.

Following the lost of Sotto’s motion, the Senate proceeded to voting on the motion of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta. The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman agreed to change his motion from dismissing the impeachment case to archiving it.

Now that the Senate has archived the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the Vice President claimed that what she really wants to happen will no longer be possible for now. Based on a report on PhilStar, Duterte claimed that she really wants all evidence to be presented to the public.
“I wanted… all the pieces of evidence from the prosecution and all the pieces of evidence from the defense presented for everyone. But unfortunately, it will not happen for now,” the Vice President claimed.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also claimed that her 16-member legal team is allegedly prepared for all possibilities including the Senate archiving the impeachment complaint against her. Based on the report, she stressed that they did not really expect for anything with her team’s preparedness. The lawyers who defend Duterte are from the Fortun Narvasa and Salazar Law Firm.
