The House of Representatives has filed a motion for reconsideration to the Supreme Court over its decision on the Articles of Impeachment against the Vice President. The Supreme Court declared the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as “unconstitutional” for not following the one-year rule.

Four (4) impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte in 2024. However, the complainants argued that the other complaints were not transmitted. Aside from the House, some complainants also filed a motion for reconsideration to the Supreme Court over its ruling on Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment case.

Following his reelection in the House speakership, Speaker Martin Romualdez previously reiterated that the House remains to have the “exclusive” duty to initiate impeachments. He also called on the members of the chamber that while they recognize the ruling of the high court, they will not “bow in silence” to its decision.
House spokesperson Princess Abante previously stressed that the chamber will continue to push for its mandate despite the ruling of the Supreme Court. She also claimed that the decision of the high court is not yet final as they can file a motion for reconsideration.

The House of Representatives urged the Senate to delay the ruling on whether or not to dismiss the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously claimed that they will decide on the Supreme Court ruling over Duterte’s impeachment on August 6 — which is today.
Recently, House spokesperson Princess Abante arrived wearing a black shirt and a black pants based on a post of Inquirer. Her shirt is plastered with the word “forthwith” which was a controversial word with regards to the impeachment case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Previously, former Senate Pres. Juan Ponce Enrile claimed that the Senate should have done its duty with a reasonable speed. He stressed that the Constitution mandate is “forthwith”.
