Bongbong Marcos Issues Statement on Ninoy Aquino Day Celebration

Pres. Bongbong Marcos Says PH Ready To “Uphold Leadership that Strives Towards Wholeness and Reconciliation”

BONGBONG MARCOS – As we celebrate the Ninoy Aquino Day today, the President issued a statement highlighting the call for governing with conscience.

Previously, Vice President Sara Duterte claimed that her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, may have a similar fate with the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino Jr. if he returns to the Philippines. The said statement of the Vice President earned criticisms as many Filipinos do not agree with likening Ninoy to the elder Duterte.

The late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino was shot upon his arrival to the Philippines last August 21, 1983. His assassination took place even before he was able to set foot in the Philippine grounds again after years of staying abroad for his medical treatment in the United States and his allegedly self-imposed exile for around three (3) years.

The death of the late former Sen. Ninoy Aquino Jr. sparked the EDSA People Power Revolution that ousted then dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. He and his family exiled in Hawaii and were not allowed to return to the Philippines for several years.

Following the ouster of Marcos Sr., the Filipino people elected the widow of Ninoy Aquino, the late former Pres. Corazon “Cory” Aquino. Every 21st of August, the country commemorates the death of the late former Senator who is known for his line — “The Filipino is worth dying for”.

The Chief Executive admitted that as someone who grew up with a political tradition that are formed by these moments, he now understands that history provides less an ending than being a continuing guide.
