Phivolcs Issues Tsunami Warning in Several Provinces in PH Today, July 30

Tsunami warning is up in several areas across the Philippines today based on the latest advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In the Philippines, the government institution that is tasked to record earthquake incidents across the nation is the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or more popularly called PHIVOLCS. Daily, it records several quake occurrences in the different parts of the country with PH being one of the calamity prone nations.

PHIVOLCS is also the same body that issues tsunami warnings as well as reports about occurrences of the said natural calamity in the different parts of the country. Recently, the state seismologists released an advisory about tsunami waves expected in the different provinces in the country today, July 30.

Tsunami Warning Phivolcs

Based on a post of Inquirer, PHIVOLCS said tsunami waves with a height of less than one (1) meter are expected in the following areas today, July 30, between 1:20 p.m. and 2:40 p.m.:

  • Batanes Group of Islands
  • Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Aurora
  • Quezon
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Catanduanes
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Davao del Norte
  • Davao Oriental
  • Davao Occidental
  • Davao del Sur
  • Davao de Oro

According to PHIVOLCS, the concerned public is advised to stay alert for unusual waves and to stay away from beach. Furthermore, based on the post, the state seismologists also advise the public not to go to the coastal areas in the provinces mentioned above for safety until the warning is lifted.

Phivolcs also advised the people in the above-mentioned provinces who are residing near the shoreline to temporarily move “farther inland”. The warning is issued after a magnitude 8 earthquake rocked a part of Russia.
