Incoming Sen. Tito Sotto Speaks on Race for Senate Presidency
TITO SOTTO – The former Senate President admitted the claim of Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri that he is “too strict” and explained why.
Sen. Migz Zubiri who admitted his hope for a new Senate president amid the claims that SP Chiz Escudero allegedly has at least 13 votes already recently claimed that some of their colleagues may not like his bet, Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, for the Senate presidency. According to him, it is because the incoming Senator is “too strict”.

Sotto is a former Senate President who led the upper chamber in the 18th Congress. Then, the Senate Deputy Majority Leader was Zubiri. According to Zubiri, he is loyal to Sotto and the veteran senators will be supporting him for the Senate presidency.

Sen. Migz Zubiri cited Sen. Loren Legarda and incoming Sen. Ping Lacson as among the senators who will also support incoming Sen. Tito Sotto in the Senate presidential race. Recently, the former Senate President reacted to the recent remarks of Zubiri.
Based on a report on PhilStar, Sotto admitted that he is guilty about being “too strict”. According to him, he learned from the “true statesmen” of the 8th and 9th Congress highlighting the obedience to the rules and procedures mandated by the law.
“Masyadong strikto? Guilty as charged. I was brought up by the true statesmen of the 8th and 9th Congress where decency and following rules and procedures abound,” he said.

Previously, incoming Sen. Tito Sotto reacted to the Senate’s return of Duterte’s impeachment to the House of Representatives. According to him, he learned from the late former Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago that senator judges should only seek clarifications not introduce motions.

Based on the report, Sotto said that if being too strict keeps him away from winning the Senate leadership, then he is fine with it.
“If that disqualifies me from the Senate leadership, then so be it,” the former Senate President said.
Recently, incoming Sen. Tito Sotto revealed that he will be part of the “conscience bloc” in the 20th Congress. He plans to seek the Senate Minority leadership in case he fails to get the highest position in the upper chamber.
