Lawyer of Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Makes Revelation about Harry Roque
RODRIGO DUTERTE – Lawyer Nicholas Kaufman claimed that the former President wants Harry Roque to stop meddling in his case before the International Criminal Court (ICC ) and go back to the Philippines.
The unexpected turn of events last March 11 made a mark in the history of the Philippines. The Philippine authorities assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in the arrest of former Pres. Duterte amid a warrant arrest issued by the International Criminal Court.
On the same day of his arrest, Duterte was flown to Dubai en route for The Hague, Netherlands where he is currently detained. The family members of the former President take turns in visiting him inside the ICC detention facility. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity over the drug war of his administration.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has explained his ICC detention to his 12-year-old grandson claiming that not everyone inside the detention is bad. He repeatedly claims that everything he did during his term as president was for the country and the Filipino people.
Following the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the ICC in The Hague, former presidential spokesman Harry Roque once again appeared in public after six months of hiding. He was missing since the House of Representatives issued an arrest order against him for contempt over the investigation of his alleged involvement to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations in the country.
Duterte’s former Spokesman wants to be a member of his ICC legal team. However, lead counsel of Duterte’s ICC legal team, Nicholas Kaufman, announced that the final legal team of the former President does not include Harry Roque.
Prior to the finalization of the ICC legal team of the former President, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that they want all the lawyers of her father to really be focusing in his case. According to her, Roque should be focusing in his bid for asylum in The Netherlands.
A local court in the Philippines has previously issued an arrest warrant against Duterte’s former Spokesman. However, prior to it, Harry Roque already claimed that he cannot be deported as he is now an asylum seeker in The Netherlands. According to him, the process may take up to a year and a half.
Recently, Duterte’s lead counsel made a shocking claim about the former spokesman of his client. Based on a report on Inquirer, lawyer Nicholas Kaufman claimed that a Dutch lawyer confirmed to him that Harry Roque allegedly wants to sue the Dutch government over the “rendition” of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Speaking to Alvin and Tourism, the British-Israeli lawyer claimed that the former President wants Roque to stop meddling in his ICC case and return to the Philippines.
“The former President has made it known that Roque should stop interfering in his case and return to the Philippines to sort out his own troubling legal issues,” Duterte’s lawyer said.
Based on the report, Atty. Nicholas Kaufman also claimed that neither former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte or anyone near him wants to have Harry Roque as lawyer. According to the British-Israeli Lawyer, Roque “portrayed himself as the only person capable of defending” the former President.
Amid his stay in The Hague, Harry Roque previously claimed that he will just return to the Philippines after the term of Pres. Bongbong Marcos ends. He also said he cannot forgive Marcos for allegedly causing the distance between him and his family.
