Chiz Escudero: 13 Senators Allegedly Support his Senate Presidency in 20th Congress

Sen. Joel Villanueva Speaks on Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, Talks w/ their Colleagues

CHIZ ESCUDERO – Senator Joel Villanueva claimed that 13 senators allegedly support his Senate presidency in the 20th Congress.

Currently, the Senate is about to enter the 20th Congress and there are different views on who might lead the upper chamber when it resumes its sessions soon. Aside from Escudero, several senators previously spoke about the Senate presidency.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously admitted that he is open for the Senate presidency in the 20th Congress. Senator-elect Tito Sotto also confirmed that there are ongoing talks about the Senate presidency. According to him, there are people who wants him to the Senate president in the 20th Congress and they assured him their support.

Sotto, a former Senate President in the 18th Congress, admitted that he is open to lead the upper chamber again if he has the numbers. Presidential sister and reelected Sen. Imee Marcos has also claimed that some senators allegedly want her to be the Senate president in the 20th Congress.

Amid the different views on who might be the president of the Senate in the 20th Congress, Sen. Joel Villanueva claimed that he has talked to his colleagues in the upper chamber. Based on a report on Inquirer, the Senator expressed his confidence that Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero will maintain his lead.

“If we were to hold the elections today, we already know — and I think your information is as good as mine — that Senate President Chiz Escudero will be retained as our Senate president,” the Senator said.

According to Villanueva, currently, 13 senators allegedly support the Senate presidency of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. He also revealed that he personally supports Escudero’s lead in the upper chamber citing his accomplishments. He stressed that making a decision over the matter is easy with being “result-oriented”.

“At the end of the day, you look at the accomplishments of the Senate during his tenure, and there are many measures passed, and at the same time, the respect he gives to our senators,” Villanueva said.

Based on the report, Sen. Joel Villanueva admitted that he is confident that Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero will retain his Senate presidency but he also knows that the votes of the senators who allegedly support Escudero may change.

Previously, senator-elect Erwin Tulfo said he will consult with his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, first before deciding on who to vote for the Senate presidency.
