Pres. Bongbong Marcos Reminds PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III of Challenges for him

PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III assumed the helm of the Philippine National Police promising fair implementation of laws and swift service under his lead.

The extension of the term of Philippine National Police chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil is set on July 7. Ahead of the expiry of the extension ordered by Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the Chief Executive has chosen another official to assume the post of Marbil.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos appointed Nicolas Torre III to be the next PNP chief. He is the now former chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). He gained a huge prominence after leading the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11.

Aside from Marcos Jr. and the Philippine government, Torre was also heavily-criticized over the arrest of Duterte. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has also taken swipe against Torre during the campaign sorties for the 2025 Midterm Elections.

Recently, Police Gen. Nicolas Torre III assumed the help of the PNP. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at the turn-over ceremony, Pres. Bongbong Marcos reminded the new PNP chief of the challenges that lie ahead of him as he takes the lead — cyber threats, transnational crime, police misconduct, and extremist violence.

PNP chief Nicolas Torre III is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Tagapaglunsad Class of 1993. The 55-year-old Police General is from Jolo, Sulu. He is the first alumnus of the PNPA to become the chief of the national police.

Based on the report, PNP chief Nicolas Torre III vowed to implement the 3-minute police response time in major urban centers across the nation. He first implemented the said program when he was the director of the Quezon City Police District. He also promised to boost police visibility most especially in areas where safety is a concern.

“We will be present. Makikita niyo kami sa lansangan, sa komunidad, sa palengke, at sa bawat lugar na kinakailangan ng aming presensya para magbigay ng kapanatagan ng kalooban,” he said.

PNP chief Nicolas Torre III assured that under his lead, the law implementation will be fair and the service will be swift. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the 55-year-old Police Chief also vowed that the police will be worthy of the public trust under his lead.

“Sa ilalim ng aking pamumuno, ang batas ay patas, ang serbisyo ay mabilis, at ang kapulisyahan ay karapat-dapat ng inyong tiwala,” the new PNP Chief expressed.

Davao Mayor Baste Duterte reacted to the appointment of new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The outgoing Davao Mayor is currently in The Hague to visit his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
