Davao Mayor Baste Duterte Now in The Hague, Reacts To New PNP Chief
BASTE DUTERTE – The outgoing Davao Mayor reacted to the new pick of President Bongbong Marcos for the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Nicolas Torre III.
The incumbent Philippine National Police chief, Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil, is set to retire this July. It is already the expiry of the extension of his term under the mandate of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The Chief Executive has recently picked the new chief of the national police.

Pres. Bongbong Marcos appointed Nicolas Torre III as the new PNP chief. He is the outgoing chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) following the appointment of the President. He was one of the significant officials in the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Torre led the transfer of the custody of the former President to The Hague, Netherlands. Like Pres. Marcos, he earned countless bashing following the controversial turn of events last March 11 that brought Duterte to the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The appointment of Torre to the PNP earned countless different reactions from the people including the Duterte family. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte just laughed when asked about her reaction to Torre being the new PNP chief. When asked again, she stressed that it is already her reaction.

Davao Mayor Baste Duterte who is now in The Hague spoke on the new pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos to be the next PNP chief, outgoing CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III. Based on a post on the Facebook page Nurse Mae Laagan, the Davao Vice Mayor-elect claimed that the promotion of Torre is allegedly not based on merit but on favor.
“Anong nangyari? You have a chief PNP na tatlong ranggo ang tinalunan para maging chief PNP. It’s because this is not merit-based promotion. Pabor pabor-based promotion, ‘di ba?” he said based on the post.
Davao Mayor Baste Duterte arrived in The Hague to visit his father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is currently detained under the International Criminal Court (ICC). His siblings, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, Davao Congressman Paolo Duterte, and Kitty Duterte have visited their father ahead of him.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is also in The Hague now with their mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman, and Senator Imee Marcos. The presidential sister and reelected Senator sided with the Duterte family on the issue of the controversial arrest of the former President.
In The Hague, Sen. Imee Marcos met with Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, the lawyer of Duterte in his case before the ICC. With regards to the newly-appointed PNP chief, Nicolas Torre III is faced with an “illegal detention” case filed by a woman over allegedly “photocopied” Red Notice.
