Senator-elect Tito Sotto Speaks on Pres. Bongbong Marcos, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
TITO SOTTO – The Senator-elect said he could attest to the claim of President Bongbong Marcos that he is against the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously stressed that there is a higher level of preparation for the incoming impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The impeachment court is set to convene on June 3. However, during that time, the Vice President will be in The Hague for a scheduled visit to her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Amid the looming impeachment trial, Pres. Bongbong Marcos reiterated that he will not interfere with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. Malacañang also previously stressed that the President will not meddle in the trial.

Pres. Marcos previously claimed that he is against the impeachment of Vice Pres. Duterte. According to him, it will not do any good and will only tie up the Senate and the House of Representatives. Amid the stand of the Chief Executive, the House of Representatives impeached Duterte last February 5.

Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos reiterated that he does not want the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to him, all his allies in the House did not file an impeachment complaint against the Vice President. He claimed that all those who approved the impeachment of the Vice President are the ones that he cannot dictate on.
Senator-elect Tito Sotto claimed that he can attest to the claim of Pres. Bongbong Marcos that he is against the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, the former Senate President claimed that there were instance when he and the Chief Executive talked and he has mentioned his stand over the impeachment trial.
“I will attest to the fact that in number of times that in those moments that we are able to talk with the President… Bongbong Marcos during the course of the campaign, he was really inclined not to support the impeachment,” he said.

Senator-elect Tito Sotto also claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos considers the possibility that the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte can affect the economy of the country as well as the government as per the report. The former Senate President was one of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago senatorial bets endorsed by Marcos Jr.
“I believe, yung sinabi niya nung una baka raw makagulo sa takbo ng ekonomiya, ng gobyerno. He is reiterating it now. I agree because narinig ko sa kanya yun. I can attest the fact that he really means that he is not in favor of the impeachment process at this point,” the Senator-elect said.
Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero showed the robe that he will use for Duterte’s impeachment trial. Senator-elect Tito Sotto who was the chief of the Senate for several years admitted that he is open to leading the upper chamber again if he has the numbers.
