Pres. Bongbong Marcos Picks Nicolas Torre III as New PNP Chief
NICOLAS TORRE III – Malacañang announced that President Bongbong Marcos has chosen the former chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to be the new leader of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos ordered his Cabinet secretaries to tender their courtesy resignations. The Chief Executive wants a revamp of his administration following the results of the 2025 Elections. According to the President, the government must align itself to the demands of the people.

Malacañang said that Marcos Jr.’s resignation call is due to the President being unfavor of lazy and corrupt officials in the government. Several secretaries in the Marcos cabinet immediately heed the call of the Chief Executive.

Among the positions that Pres. Bongbong Marcos recently decided on is the post of the Philippine National Police chief. The current chief of the PNP is Police General Rommel Marbil and the extension of his service is set to end in July to pave the way for his retirement.

Malacañang assured that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will act swiftly on the courtesy resignations of his Cabinet secretaries. A few days ago, Department of Interior and Local Government or DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Marcos has already chosen the next PNP chief. He refused to name who the Chief Executive has chosen but described the person as “excellent, very qualified, very dynamic” and has a good track record.
PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño previously said that the following police generals are qualified to lead the national police:
- Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the deputy chief for administration of the PNP
- Lieutenant General Robert Rodriguez, the deputy chief for operations of the PNP
- Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
- Lieutenant General Edgar Alan Okubo, the chief of the directorial staff of the PNP
- Police Major General Anthony Aberin, chief of National Capital Region Police Office
Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Bongbong Marcos has chosen former CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III as the new PNP chief. He has reportedly earned his stripes leading the Davao region police, the Batangas City and Mabalacat police stations, the Quezon City Police District, and the Western Samar Provincial Police Office.

Nicolas Torre III gained more prominence for leading the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The former President was arrested last March 11 and was flown to The Hague, Netherlands on the same day that the Philippine authorities arrested him.
Amid the investigation of the controversial arrest of Duterte, then CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III admitted that he denied former Pres. Duterte’s request to see Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
