Statement of Malacañang on Impeachment Complaint Attempted To Be Filed against Marcos Jr.
Malacañang believes that the impeachment complaint filed by the Cardemas of the Duterte Youth party-list against President Bongbong Marcos is allegedly “baseless”.
An impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos was attempted to be filed but failed. When the complainants, Duterte Youth party-list chairperson Ronald Cardema and his wife, Diucelle Marie, came to the House of Representatives to file the complaint, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco was not around to receive it.

The Office of the Secretary General refused to accept the impeachment complaint due to the absence of Velasco. The complainants plan to return to the House next week to file the complaint wherein they accused the President of an alleged violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

Furthermore, the Cardema couple also cited that former Pres. Duterte is allegedly denied of his right to due process. Previously, following the former President’s arrest, Marcos Jr. stressed that all necessary procedure were followed in the arrest of Duterte. Malacañang also defended the President from betrayal accusations.

According to Malacañang, Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not betray anyone as the Philippine government its job over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Both the Palace and the President claimed that the government acted on the arrest of the former President in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol.
Former Pres. Duterte was arrested last March 11 upon his arrival from Hong Kong. From his arrest at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, he was detained for several hours at Villamor Air base before he was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai. He is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court where he is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity over his administration’s war on drugs.

Recently, Malacañang spoke on the impeachment complaint attempted to be filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Based on a report on PhilStar, Palace press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said that it is the complainants’ right to file a complaint but they believe that the impeachment rap against Marcos Jr. is allegedly “baseless”.
“Karapatan po nila kung nais po nilang magsampa. Pero inuulit po natin, ang complaint na ‘to, ay sa ating pagtingin ay walang pinanghuhugutan,” she expressed.
The Malacañang press official stressed that the Marcos administration followed the law over the arrest of Duterte. Based on the report, she also highlighted that it is in line with the country’s commitment with the Interpol.
“Kung mayroon mang sariling interes patungkol dito, nanaisin pa ba nila na hindi sundin ang batas, hindi ipagpatuloy ang commitment or talikuran ang commitment sa Interpol para sa mga taong inaakusahan ng crimes against humanity?” Castro said.
Atty. Clair Castro also expressed her hope that aside from working on the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr., the Duterte Youth party-list will create many more laws. Recently, presidential cousin and House Speaker Martin Romualdez was also asked about his side on the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
