Prior to his order for a courtesy resignation among his Cabinet secretaries, Pres. Bongbong Marcos aired his realizations from the results of the 2025 Elections. According to him, the Filipinos are tired of politicking and are disappointed by the services of the government.

With regards to Philippine National Police or PNP Chief Rommel Marbil, his extended term is set to expire on June 7. According to DILG Sec. Marbil is on a compulsory retirement at the age of 56 but his term was extended by four (4) months by Marcos Jr. Based on a report on GMA News, PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño previously said that the following are qualified to be the next PNP chief:

  • Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the deputy chief for administration of the PNP
  • Lieutenant General Robert Rodriguez, the deputy chief for operations of the PNP
  • Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
  • Lieutenant General Edgar Alan Okubo, the chief of the directorial staff of the PNP
  • Police Major General Anthony Aberin, chief of National Capital Region Police Office

Based on the report, DILG Sec. Jonvic Remulla refused to name the pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos to be the next PNP chief. The Interior Secretary has good words for the next chief of police in the country.

“Meron na siyang napili (He already has a pick). Excellent, very qualified, very dynamic, good track record,” Remulla said.

Interior Sec. Jonvic Remulla said it would be an advantage if the next PNP chief will have a longer term. He stressed that there must be a “continuing vision” among the PNP chiefs as the tenure of the head of police usually last a little more than a year.

Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said that he wants to be respected but “maybe fear is better” when it comes to erring officials. Malacañang stressed that the Chief Executive does not want officials who have corruption issues.
