Sen. Imee Marcos Flies To The Hague for Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte
IMEE MARCOS – The reelected Senator met with British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, the legal counsel of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte in his trial before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is detained in The Hague, Netherlands for more than two (2) months now. He is faced with an accusation of crimes against humanity before the ICC. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has returned to The Hague to visit former Pres. Duterte following the elections. The elder Duterte won mayor of Davao.
Several senatorial bets of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also won in the 2025 Midterm Elections. The Vice President endorsed the senatorial bids of reelected Sen. Imee Marcos, Senator-elect Camille Villar, and the PDP-Laban candidates. Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has requested his children to campaign for his #Duter10.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos was heavily-blamed over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the transfer of his custody to the ICC. Amid the issue, presidential sister and reelected Sen. Imee Marcos left the senatorial slate backed by her brother and led a Senate investigation on Duterte’s arrest.
Sen. Marcos also asked the Ombudsman to investigate five (5) key officials in the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos must be held accountable over her father’s arrest.
Currently, both Vice Pres. Sara Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos are in The Hague. It is no secret to the public that the two (2) daughters of former presidents are friends. The latter met with British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman, the ICC lawyer of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.
Sen. Marcos shared a photo of her and Atty. Kaufman on social media. In her post, the presidential sister stressed that she knows the feeling of being away from your own country, thus, she finds the arrest of the former President and the transfer of his custody unacceptable.
“Ngunit narito tayo hindi upang magdrama, kundi para sa solusyon, narito tayo upang umaksyon. Hindi ako naghintay ng 39 years para lang magkamali muli, may Marcos na natuto sa kasaysayan. Narito ako hindi para sa isang tao, kundi para sa sambayanang Pilipino. Thank you Atty. Nicholas Kaufman. Together, we will bring PRRD home,” the Senator stated in her post.
Previously, Pres. Bongbong Marcos boldly said he disagrees with the findings of Sen. Imee Marcos over Duterte’s arrest.
