Senator-Elect Erwin Tulfo Confirms Both Sotto, Escudero Want To Talk To Him

ERWIN TULFO – The Senator-elect explained that he will consult his brother, Senator Raffy Tulfo, first before deciding on the Senate presidency.

Amid a new set of senators-elect gearing up to join the incumbent senators in the Senate, there are talks on who will be the Senate President in the incoming 20th Congress. Currently, the upper chamber is led by Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero but former Senate Pres. Tito Sotto confirmed that he is open to be the Senate President if he has the numbers.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero was reportedly “unbothered” by the statement of Senator-elect Tito Sotto. Amid the rumors, Sotto claimed that there are allegedly ongoing talks about the Senate presidency and there are people who pledged their support to him. According to him, he has yet to talk to Escudero but they will eventually talk.

Amid the rumors and speculations on the Senate presidency in the incoming 20th Congress, Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo confirmed that both Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero and fellow Senator-elect Tito Sotto want to talk to him. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Tulfo also admitted that he had a lengthy discussion with his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, over the matter.

According to Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo, he has yet to commit to either Sotto or Escudero on who to vote for the Senate presidency. Based on the report, he stressed that he will consult with Sen. Raffy Tulfo first.

“Tingnan ko pa. Pareho sila inimbitahan ako. They want to sit down with me,” the Senator-elect said.

Senator-elect Erwin Tulfo said he still have to make a conclusion if there is a need for him and his brother, Sen. Raffy Tulfo, to agree on who to vote for the Senate presidency. He stressed that he needs more time.

Former Sen. Tito Sotto led the Senate from May 2018 to 2022. According to him, he wants to “restore the good image, the integrity, and the independence of the institution”. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero is the chief of the upper chamber since May 2024.

Amid two (2) of them coming from the same family have seats in the Senate, Tulfo previously claimed that he is willing to support the bill against political dynasty and resign from his post if it is passed into a law.
