Comelec Issues Show Cause Order on Pasig bet Atty. Ian Sia over ‘Single Mom’ Joke
Pasig bet for congressman Atty. Ian Sia complied with the Show Cause Order issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) regarding his controversial ‘single mom’ joke.
Countless netizens on social media lambasted a Pasig candidate for congressman for his joke on women solo parents. At a caucus meeting, Atty. Ian Sia who is under the opposition team Kaya This joked that single mothers who still have their period and are lonely may sleep with him once a year.

The joke of Sia reportedly drew laughter from the audience at the campaign event. Later on, the Pasig bet for congressman reportedly clarified that it is only a joke as he already has a wife. However, his statement earned him a lot of bashing online.

Many netizens stressed that Sia is allegedly insulting single mothers who work hard for their children with his joke. A lot of people called him “rude” and were disappointed in his line of speaking citing that he is a lawyer. There are also calls on the Commission on Elections to make him explain.

The Pasig candidate previously apologized on his women solo parent joke and claimed that the uploader of the video must be blamed. According to him, the uploader did not include the part that show the reaction of the crowd. He stressed that the audience were laughing at his joke.
The Commission on Elections issued a Show Cause Order against Atty. Ian Sia over his controversial joke on single moms. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in his response to the poll body over his remarks, the Pasig bet invoked his freedom of speech.
According to Sia, his “joke” was allegedly “maliciously spun to mislead people on social media”. He stressed that the tone was conversational and he did not mean to discriminate, exclude, or restrict single mothers. Based on the report, he stressed that his statements fall within his “freedom of speech”.
“My statements were not uttered to restrict or deprive female solo parents of their fundamental human rights and freedoms,” the Pasig bet for congressman said.
Previously, the Pasig candidate for the congressional election accused Mayor Vico Sotto and his allies over his joke becoming a national issue. According to him, the administration allegedly cannot answer the issues that he is throwing at them.
