MMDA Bans Vlogging During Clearing Ops, Chairman Artes Announces

Vlogging Now Banned for MMDA Personnel and Vloggers During Clearing Operations, Says Chairman Artes

VLOGGING – Chairman Romando Artes has announced that vlogging is now banned for MMDA personnel and vloggers during clearing operations.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has officially prohibited vlogging among its personnel, particularly during clearing operations. This announcement was made by MMDA Chairman Romando Artes and was reported by Frontline Pilipinas Weekend on TV5.

According to Chairman Artes, the decision was made to ensure that MMDA workers remain focused on their primary duties and responsibilities during field operations, instead of being distracted by creating content for social media. The policy aims to uphold professionalism and efficiency while avoiding unnecessary distractions.

In addition to banning MMDA workers from vlogging, the agency has also declined offers from independent vloggers who wanted to join and document clearing operations. This move, according to the MMDA, is to avoid potential controversies that may arise from how these videos are presented or interpreted by the public.

Furthermore, MMDA workers are not permitted to bring external vloggers with them during operations. Despite this, the agency clarified that it will continue documenting its activities using official body cameras. These videos may still be released to the public through official MMDA channels to maintain transparency.

Importantly, the MMDA emphasized that while its personnel are now restricted from vlogging, the public is not prohibited from recording MMDA activities during clearing operations. This ensures a balance between operational focus and public accountability.

The policy comes in the wake of a recent incident involving MMDA enforcer Gabriel Go, who drew criticism after a video of him allegedly shaming Police Captain Erik Felipe went viral. In the now-deleted video, Go was seen confronting Felipe over motorcycles parked on the sidewalk. Although Felipe apologized and committed to moving the motorcycles, the manner in which the situation was handled sparked public backlash.

With this new policy, the MMDA aims to maintain discipline and prevent similar controversies moving forward, while still promoting transparency and accountability in their operations.
