Sen. Imee Marcos Reacts To Statement of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero against her

IMEE MARCOS – The Senator called Senate President Chiz Escudero the “ambitious one” following his remarks calling for her not to use the upper chamber in her personal motives.

Following the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the transfer of his custody to the International Criminal Court, Sen. Marcos launched a probe in the Senate to investigate the arrest of the former President. Three (3) hearings have been conducted already.

Following the first hearing on the arrest of Duterte, Marcos expressed her view that there seems to be no due process on the turn of events last March 11. The cabinet officials attended the first and the third hearings of the upper chamber. Sen. Imee Marcos left the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago following the arrest of Duterte.

In the latest hearing, Sen. Marcos has cited Special Envoy on Transnational Crimes Ambassador Markus Lacanilao for contempt and he was detained but was released shortly after. The Senator announced that Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero allegedly refused to sign the contempt order for Lacanilao.

Marcos is disappointed over the alleged decision of Escudero. It earned him bashing on social media. However, according to the Senate President, he did not refuse from signing the contempt order. He claimed that Lacanilao was already detained even before his office got the document.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero called on Sen. Imee Marcos to refrain from using the Senate allegedly for her personal motives. He claimed that “Ambassador Lacanilao was ordered detained without the requisite approval and due process”.

Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos reacted to the statement of Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero. Based on a report on Inquirer, she called the Senate Chief the “ambitious one”.

“What they have been saying is funny to me; let us just return to the rules of the Senate, where you cannot find anything about issuing a show-cause (order),” the Senator said in Filipino.

Based on the report, Sen. Marcos also claimed that the remarks that the “hearing is being used for politics” is also funny to her. According to her, she has already forgotten about campaigning.

“The claims that the hearing is being used for politics are also funny because we know that he is the ambitious one. I have forgotten about campaigning,” Marcos said.

Previously, regarding the arrest of Duterte, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte questioned the silence of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero questioned if Duterte wants the AFP and the police to fight against each other.
