ANGELU DE LEON – Actress-politician Angelu de Leon fiercely called out Pasig candidate Ian Sia for his disrespectful remarks about single mothers.

Angelu de Leon has strongly condemned the controversial remarks made by Pasig City congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia regarding single mothers. De Leon expressed her outrage over Sia’s statements, labeling them as misogynistic and offensive, particularly at a time when society is recognizing and honoring the contributions of women and solo parents.

Taking to Facebook, De Leon emphasized that disrespect towards women has no place in Pasig City. In her all-caps post, she wrote, “BAWAL ANG BASTOS SA PASIG!” She further criticized Sia for his distasteful comments, pointing out that they came shortly after Women’s Month and during a time when the nation is celebrating solo parents.

The Pasig second district councilor, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Committee on Social Services and Solo Parent Affairs, underscored her commitment to advocating for the dignity of women, especially single mothers. Drawing from her own experience as a former solo parent, De Leon voiced her deep disappointment, stating that such remarks are not only insulting to women but also reflect poorly on societal values.

She stressed that respect and dignity should be fundamental principles upheld by all, especially by those seeking public office. “Ang ganitong uri ng mga salita ay hindi lamang nakakainsulto sa mga kababaihan, kundi pati na rin sa ating lipunan,” she said. “Uulitin ko, BAWAL ANG BASTOS SA PASIG!”

De Leon is currently running for reelection as a councilor in Pasig City’s second district under the leadership of Mayor Vico Sotto, Vice Mayor Dudut Jaworski, and Congressman Roman Romulo. Meanwhile, Sia is part of the opposition slate led by mayoral candidate Sarah Discaya, whose team also includes actress Ara Mina and beauty queen Shamcey Supsup-Lee.

The controversy erupted after a viral video from a March 28 campaign event surfaced, showing Sia making crude comments about single mothers. Women’s rights group GABRIELA has also denounced his statements, calling them reprehensible and degrading. The issue has sparked widespread criticism, with many demanding accountability from the congressional candidate.
