Atty. Michael Poa, VP Sara Duterte’s Former Spokesman, Speaks on Filing Entry as Co-Counsel
SARA DUTERTE’S FORMER SPOKESMAN – Attorney Michael Poa joined the legal team of the Vice President in challenging an impeachment case against her before the Supreme Court.
An impeach trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is expected to commence in the next few months after the House of Representatives approved her impeachment. Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the lower chamber signed the impeachment of Duterte.

Previously, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero has issued a proposed timeline for Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. The tentative date for the commencement of the trial is on July 30. The Senate President said that the proposed timetable still needs the nod of the lawmakers.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has previously filed a petition before the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of the 4th impeachment case filed against her. The Vice President appealed to the high court to declare it null based on the grounds provided in the petition.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is one of the lawyers who signed Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s petition filed before the Supreme Court. The Vice President had a seven-member legal team. Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s former spokesman, Attorney Michael Poa, filed his entry of appearance as co-counsel for the Vice President.

Based on a report on PhilStar, Atty. Michael Poa’s inclusion to the legal team of the Vice President was confirmed by the Office of the Spokesperson of the Supreme Court. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s former spokesman released a statement regarding his decision to serve as counsel of his former boss.
“In my view, the petition filed before the Supreme Court also raises constitutional questions/concerns that need to be addressed,” Poa said.
Based on the report, Duterte and Poa have first worked together in the Department of Education when she was the DepEd secretary. He worked as the chief of staff of the then-education secretary. When Duterte resigned from being the DepEd secretary, Poa also left the helm of the education department.
Atty. Michael Poa became the spokesman of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in the Office of the Vice President (OVP) after his resignation as her chief of staff in DepEd. However, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s former spokesman Michael Poa left the post shortly after the House of Representatives started scrutinizing the OVP.
