Update on Prosecution Team for VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial amid Senate Recess
SARA DUTERTE IMPEACHMENT TRIAL – A member of the team of prosecutors for the trial said they are “ready” in case the Senate decides to start.
Countless Filipinos await what is going to happen next regarding the impeachment issue of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. The House of Representatives has forwarded to the Senate an approved impeachment complaint against the Vice President but the upper chamber was already on its last day before session recess when it got the copy.

Two-thirds of the lawmakers in the House gave their signature approving the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. As the Senate is on recess now and the session is set to resume in June, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero released a proposed timeline for the VP Sara Duterte impeachment trial. The tentative start of the trial is July 30.

However, amid the Senate President asserting that the session is on break now, there are several calls to start the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Duterte immediately. A group is even gathering one (1) million signatures until Pentecost to call for the start of the trial.
Following the pronouncement of the group, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that no amount of signatures will amend the law and convince him to convene the impeachment court while the Senate is on break. He claimed that doing so will make him violate the rules.
Amid the waiting season on the matter, a member of the prosecutors in the VP Sara Duterte impeachment trial said that they are “ready”. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Batangas Representative Gerville Luistro said that they meet every week to prepare for the trial.
“I believe that the prosecution team is ready. Weekly meron kaming meeting, deliberation, preparation about the articles of impeachment that we will be presenting to the impeachment court once the trial commences,” Luistro said.

Based on the report, Batangas Rep. Gerville Luistro is one of the 11 members of the House of Representatives who will serve as prosecutors in the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to her, she wants to be on top of the second article of impeachment which discussed the alleged misuse of the confidential funds.
Previously, a member of the House claimed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte could be ordered to return the misused public funds.
