Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte Arrives in The Hague Following Arrest
RODRIGO DUTERTE – The former President has arrived at The Hague Prison where he is set to stay while waiting for the International Criminal Court (ICC) trial.
The arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte sparked countless headlines not only in the Philippines but across the globe. Truth be told that Duterte is one of the most popular Filipino Chief Executives and his administration’s most prominent campaign is its war on drugs.

However, while many people lauded the war on drugs of the Duterte administration, human rights advocates and defenders have reacted to the deaths linked to the campaign. It also caught the attention of the International Criminal Court or the ICC.
Duterte removed the Philippines from being a member of the International Criminal Court amid its attempts to investigate his war on drugs campaign. During his previous appearance at a hearing held by the House Quad Committee, former Pres. Duterte told the ICC to speed up in investigating him.

The former Chief Executive stressed that he might die without the ICC having investigated him. According to him, he is not impressed by the international court as it has allegedly not sent anyone to jail.
Following his arrest at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte was detained under the custody of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for several hours. On the same day, Duterte was “forced” to take the flight to Dubai as he will be brought to the Netherlands.
En route to the Netherlands, Duterte had a lay-over in Dubai. He was accompanied by his lawyer, a nurse, and his special assistance. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also left the Philippines for the Netherlands early the following day to follow her father.

Recently, it was confirmed that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has arrived in The Hague. Based on a report on GMA News, his plane landed at the Rotterdam The Hague airport at 4:54 p.m. or 11:54 p.m. in the Philippine time.
Former Pres. Duterte has entered the Hague Penitentiary Institution or the Scheveningen Prison at 7:34 p.m. or at 2:34 a.m. in the Philippine time aboard a black car. Based on the report, Duterte supporters waited for the arrival of the former President outside The Hague Prison and they were chanting “We Love Duterte” and “Bring him back”.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte will be staying in The Hague Prison while he waits for the ICC trial. Prior to his plane landing in The Hague, former Pres. Duterte gave a message for the Filipinos telling them he’s OK.
