Vatican Issues Update on Pope Francis’ Condition amid Hospitalization

Pope Francis’ condition is now “stable” as per an update from Vatican and his ventilation was removed but he is still not out of danger.

The Pope is currently admitted in the Gemelli hospital in Rome, Italy for more than two (2) weeks now. On February 14, he was confined in the hospital due to bronchitis. It developed into double pneumonia.

Pope Francis believed that his death might be near. Amid his battle against pneumonia, wake and funeral preparations for the Roman Pontiff was organized after he told two (2) people close to him that he might “not make it this time”.

On the 7th day of his hospital confinement, the clinical conditions of the Pope improved. His fever was gone. However, his doctors emphasized that the Roman Pontiff is still not out of danger. On a weekend after it, the Pope had a respiratory attack that left him in a critical state.

The respiratory attack urged a transfusion of two (2) counts of blood. Following the attack, the Pope’s condition continuously improved daily after it. However, on February 28, Pope Francis suffered a breathing crisis again and had to be put under a non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

The Pope went through a bronchospasm and the doctors had to clear his airways. Meanwhile, he remained alert and his routine includes praying at an adjacent chapel in the hospital.

Recently, Vatican released a positive update regarding Pope Francis’ condition. Based on a post on Vatican News, the Holy See Press Office said that the Roman Pontiff’s condition is “stable” and he is already out of the use of non-invasive mechanical ventilation and has no fever. He remains under a high-flow oxygen therapy.

However, the prognosis of Pope Francis’ condition remains “guarded” due to the complexity of the clinical picture. Based on the post, the Roman Pontiff “alternated rest with prayer”.

Previously, two (2) officials of Vatican said that Pope Francis had a conflict with some cardinals over finance.
