Man Who Was Late for His Flight Blocks Plane Preparing for Takeoff

Man Blocks Plane After Missing His Flight

PLANE – A man was taken into custody after blocking a plane on the tarmac when he missed his flight.

A 22-year-old man was taken into police custody after blocking an airplane that was about to take off at an airport in Chile. The man, who was reportedly a passenger on the flight, had arrived late and resorted to an extreme measure in an attempt to stop the aircraft from leaving without him.

A video shared by GMA News, courtesy of José Patricio, captured the dramatic moment when the man stood in front of the plane for about a minute, preventing it from taking off. The aircraft, operated by Latam Airlines, was scheduled to depart for Concepción, Chile.

According to reports, the man managed to evade airport security and reach the runway, where he positioned himself in front of the moving plane. The pilots were in the process of maneuvering the aircraft when they were forced to stop due to his sudden appearance. This caused a delay of approximately ten minutes.

Airport personnel quickly responded to the situation. A Latam Airlines employee, along with a patrol vehicle, arrived at the scene to remove the man from the runway. He was immediately taken into custody and later handed over to the police. Authorities confirmed that he would face appropriate charges for his actions.

Passengers who miss their flights typically have to follow standard airline policies to rebook or make alternative travel arrangements. Procedures vary by airline, with some offering a short grace period or a “flat-tire rule” that allows rebooking if the passenger arrives shortly after departure. If no such policy applies, the ticket may be marked as a no-show, potentially canceling connecting or return flights.

Travelers in such situations are advised to contact the airline’s ticket counter or customer service to check for available options, including standby seating, rebooking for a fee, or purchasing a new ticket. In some cases, travel insurance may cover missed flights. If no alternative is available, passengers can explore other airlines or routes to reach their destination.

This incident serves as a reminder to always arrive at the airport early and adhere to airline policies to avoid unnecessary complications or legal consequences.
