Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Welcomes Help Offered by Sen. Koko Pimentel over VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
KOKO PIMENTEL – The Senator expressed his willingness to help draft the rules for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero has released the proposed timeline for Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial amid the calls to speed up the commencement of the trial. Previously, the Senate leader stressed that the upper chamber has an approved legislative calendar that they are following.
Based on the proposed schedule set by Escudero, the impeachment trial of Duterte might start on July 30. According to the Senate Chief, the timeline needs the nod of the senators and they will discuss it when the session resumes in June.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero believes that there is no need for a special session. Previously, he also expressed that he won’t force Vice Pres. Sara Duterte to attend the impeachment trial unless her presence is really required.
Sen. Koko Pimentel believes that nothing is stopping the Senate from tackling the rules of impeachment and acting as an impeachment court. He also expressed that the Constitution mandates that impeachment cases must be acted on immediately.
Although they are on a Congress break, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero assured that his office is reviewing the rules of impeachment and is drafting the amendments. Sen. Koko Pimentel also offered to help draft the rules in the impeachment battle of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
“Walang problema. Five lang kami abogado sa Senate ngayon so baka wala ng ibang choice. Hintay muna ako sa official assignment. Then discuss ko sa staff ko,” Pimentel said.
Based on a recent report on Inquirer, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero accepted the offer of Sen. Koko Pimentel. According to the chief of the upper chamber, he will order his legal team to work with Pimentel in the drafting of the impeachment rules.
“I welcome and thank Sen. Pimentel’s offer to help draft the proposed rules. I will instruct the legal team to coordinate with him on this matter,” Escudero said.
Previously, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte stressed that they will face Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial. According to him, the Vice President is “unbothered” and has a solid legal team.
