Update on Honeylet Avanceña Issue w/ SAF Officer during Duterte’s Arrest
HONEYLET AVANCEÑA – The officer of the Special Action Force (SAF) allegedly hit by former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s partner won’t push through a case against her.
Countless Filipinos were hooked by the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Monday. The members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested the former Chief Executive following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
The ICC is investigating Duterte over his war on drugs which is linked to thousands of deaths. Duterte just arrived from Hong Kong when the members of the PNP arrested him. He attended a thanksgiving event of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ abroad. It was supposedly a leg of the campaign rallies of the PDP-Laban but the Hong Kong authorities did not allow a public campaign.
Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was with his common-law wife, Honeylet Avanceña, and their daughter, Kitty Duterte, all throughout the situation prior to his exit from the Philippines. Kitty even called the detention of her father as “illegal detention” citing the alleged absence of a warrant of arrest.
Honeylet Avanceña also tried to convince Duterte not to go with the authorities as they allegedly have no arrest warrant. The former President tried to calm down his wife. On the same day, Duterte was flown out from the Philippines for the Netherlands.
Yesterday, the Philippine National Police held a press conference over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Honeylet Avanceña has allegedly hit a Special Action Force (SAF) officer with a cellphone during the commotion.
The physical action of the partner of Duterte during the situation left a lump in the forehead of an unidentified police officer. Then, the PNP said that it is mulling a complaint against Avanceña as well as a case against former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea over an alleged obstruction of justice.
Recently, the Philippine National Police gave an update on the decision of the SAF officer allegedly hurt by the partner of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on Inquirer, the SAF officer is not pushing through a case against Honeylet Avanceña.
According to Fajardo, it is the personal decision of the SAF officer to not file a case against Honeylet Avanceña. Based on the report, the SAF officer said it is part of the hazard of his job.
“Personal decision ng pulis na huwag nang magsampa ng kaso at ang reason nya ay kasama yun sa hazard ng kanyang trabaho,” the PNP Spokesperson said.
At The Hague, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte underwent a check-up and called the Philippine Embassy. He also called Medialdea who is his legal counsel for Duterte’s initial appearance before the ICC today.
