Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Reveals Elizabeth Zimmerman, Duterte’s Ex-Wife, To Fly to The Hague
DUTERTE’S EX-WIFE – Elizabeth Zimmerman is set to come to The Hague, Netherlands where former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is now detained.
Undeniably, one of the most popular presidents that the Philippines ever had is former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. His term as the chief executive of the country earned both criticisms and admirations. His administration’s war on drugs is the most popular campaign during his term.
There were attempts of investigating the war on drugs as it is linked to thousands of deaths. The International Criminal Court (ICC) is one of the entities that probed the staunch campaign of the Duterte administration. More than a week ago, the former President was arrested over an alleged arrest warrant by the ICC.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) implemented the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to Malacañang, the government acted on its commitment with the Interpol. Senator Bato dela Rosa called the arrest of Duterte as “betrayal” by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
Amid the criticisms, the Palace defended Marcos Jr. saying he did not betray anyone. The Chief Executive also stressed that the issue is already existent before he assumed the presidency.
On the same day of his arrest, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was flown to Dubai en route for The Hague, Netherlands. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also flew to the Netherlands to support her father. Reportedly, the Vice President was barred from entering the Villamor Air Base when the elder Duterte was detained.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was already able to talk to former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the ICC detention facility where he is detained. According to the Vice President, FPRRD wants her to immediately return to the Philippines. She stressed that she is the only one with a Schengen Visa in their family and is a lawyer. The other family members are still applying for the travel document.
Vice Pres. Duterte said she will just talk to the legal team of former Pres. Duterte and wait for another kin to be there then she will return to the Philippines. According to her, Duterte’s legal team will be composed of all foreign lawyers.
Based on a report on GMA News, Duterte’s ex-wife, Elizabeth Zimmerman, is also coming to The Hague, Netherlands. It was confirmed by their daughter, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
“I think nag-decide siya [Zimmerman] last night na pupunta siya rito. Whether or not makapasok daw siya, pupunta raw siya,” the Vice President said.
However, based on the report, Vice Pres. Duterte recognized that the marriage of her parents was annulled, thus, Zimmerman is no longer considered next of kin. It is unsure if the ICC will allow Duterte’s ex-wife to visit him.
The next-of-kin privileges rest with Duterte’s children — VP Sara, Davao City’s 1st District representative Paolo Duterte, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, and their half-sibling, Veronica “Kitty” Duterte, the former President’s daughter with his common-law partner, Honeylet Avanceña.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte told the Filipinos that former Pres. Duterte could not be returned to the Philippines, thus, the people must move on as a country.
