Sen. Bato dela Rosa Speaks on Marcos Administration over Controversial Arrest of Former Pres. Duterte
BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator expressed his belief that the Marcos administration was “blinded by politics” when it surrendered former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte gained different reactions from the Filipino people. There are those who viewed it as a step in favor for the alleged victims of the war on drugs of the Duterte administration while others believe that there was no due process in the arrest of the former President.

Malacañang and President Bongbong Marcos earned countless criticisms following the arrest of Duterte and the transfer of his custody to the ICC. As for Sen. Bato dela Rosa, Marcos allegedly committed “betrayal to the max” over the arrest of Duterte. He stressed that the Chief Executive allegedly did not stand by his words that he will not let the ICC here in the country.

After former Pres. Duterte’s plane bound for Dubai en route for the Netherlands has left the Philippines, Pres. Bongbong Marcos addressed the nation saying that the government followed a legal process in the arrest of the former President. According to him, the government acted on its arrest in lieu of its commitment with the Interpol.

An ICC-accredited lawyer, Joel Butuyan, claimed that Duterte even received special treatment during his arrest compared with the ordinary suspects. He also denied that it was a ‘warrantless’ arrest. According to Butuyan, former Pres. Duterte allegedly received a lot of privileges when he was arrested and he was told about the Miranda rights.
Recently, Sen. Bato dela Rosa spoke anew over the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, the Senator expressed his belief that the Marcos administration is allegedly “blinded by politics” over the arrest of the former President.
“Binulag ng pulitika ang pamantayan ng pamahalaang ito sa pagkilala sa garantiyang ibinigay sa bawat Pilipino- dating presidente man o hindi— ng konstitusyon,” Dela Rosa said.
Based on the report, the Senator further expressed that not only the Duterte supporters allegedly said that there was a violation over the surrender of former Pres. Duterte to the ICC but the Filipinos. According to him, the constitutional rights of the former President was violated.
“Dapat maalala, hindi lamang ni Justice Secretary Boying Remulla at mga gabinete ni Presidente Bongbong Marcos, kundi ng buong sambayanang Pilipino na kaya nakapiring ang simbulo ng hustisya dahil dapat walang kinikilingan pagdating sa pagpapatupad at pagsunod sa batas,” he said.
Previously, amid the speculations that the ICC has more arrest warrants to issue, Sen. Bato dela Rosa confirmed that hiding is one of his options if the ICC issues an arrest warrant against him.
