2 Passengers Arrested for Bomb Joke on Landing Airplane

BOMB JOKE – Two passengers were arrested after making a bomb joke on a landing airplane, causing panic and security concerns.

Authorities apprehended two passengers after they made a bomb joke while aboard a Cebu Pacific flight that was about to land at Bohol-Panglao International Airport on Saturday morning. The incident, which was taken seriously by airport security, led to immediate action from aviation authorities.

According to a report from the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Security and Intelligence Service (CAAP-CSIS), the two individuals were heard by a flight attendant laughing while making the alarming statement around 11:00 AM. The passengers allegedly joked that a bomb was about to explode inside the aircraft as it was preparing to land.

Upon landing, the aircraft’s passengers were not immediately allowed to disembark. As part of standard security protocols, the pilot requested clearance for a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft cabin and all passenger baggage. This precautionary measure ensured that there were no actual threats present, but it also led to delays in the airline’s operations.

The two individuals responsible for the bomb joke were promptly taken into custody by airport security and law enforcement personnel. The CAAP-CSIS operatives conducted an in-depth assessment of the situation, ensuring that no real threat was posed to the flight or its passengers. However, the disruption caused inconvenience to other travelers and impacted airport operations.

The arrested passengers are now facing charges for violating Presidential Decree No. 1727, commonly known as the Anti-Bomb Joke Law. This law penalizes individuals who make false bomb threats, whether in jest or with malicious intent. If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of up to ₱40,000.

Authorities continue to remind the public that making bomb jokes, especially in transportation hubs such as airports and airplanes, is a serious offense. Security measures are in place to protect passengers and crew, and any threat—real or otherwise—will be met with strict legal action. The incident serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of responsible behavior when traveling.
